Chriskwanzakkah 2010, Part 4, The Dancers

Oh man, I was doing so well.  The end of the quarter has taken its toll though.  Finals and final papers – it all has come due.  Then the previous weekend the kids and I spent it in Lancaster at grandpa’s for a cousin’s birthday party and stuff also.  That was the worst weekend to go anywhere – the weekend before finals.  But we have made it past it all save for this final essay exam that is due tomorrow.  It just needs a rewrite so I’m stealing time to blog.  Let’s see, the annual Chriskwanzakkah party is still on the table.  This was the December 2010 event as I mentioned before.  There was a lot going on all night but this entry I will feature the dancers that provided a lot of the entertainment.  First up, Rachel – Kevin’s wife to be and longtime girlfriend.  She kicked off the dancers around midnight.

Obviously, videoing this would have been better but I’m not a big video guy.

The next dancer’s name eludes me.  She was nothing but energy though.

And this is Eighth Letter – yes, H is her name.  This is her first set.
She rides the stand up into the cosmos to perform for us.  This was a first for me.

Another dancer, “Marge Simpson”, entertained us with her curves – and feathers.

I love how that blue hair matches so well with her tattoos.

Then Eighth Letter gave us one more set around 2:00 am.
17 photos – shot in program mode like all of the Chriskwanzakkah photos.  I used my Speedlite 430EX flash on all of the shots except the last one.  All photos were photographed with my kit lens, EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, on my Canon EOS Rebel XS.  The next post will feature Hanukkah Harry and Jesus.  I know but it was a sight.

Oh and a very big thank you to Mr. Stephen Baird who has just started following my blog.  And his daughter is a soldier!  That’s near and dear to my heart.  She was recently stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, as part of the 101st Airborne Division.  I served there too in the Screaming Eagles.  I went to the first Gulf War as a Screaming Eagle.  A big Army hooah to Tara!!

Chriskwanzakkah 2010, Part 3, The Hula Hoop

Man, I missed some days.  Well, it’s the end of the academic quarter and a lot is coming due.  But let us continue with the Chriskwanzakkah party.  Like I said, this was the December 2010 event and this young lady’s name escapes me.  Nonetheless, her act was awesome.  Catching it with the camera let you see things the eye could not.

This is cool – this photo and the next are almost the same shot.  This one is without the flash.
And this one is with the flash.  The contrast is really different and it changes the mood of the photograph tremendously.  And I attract a few gazes with the flash.

12 photos – shot in program mode like all of the Chriskwanzakkah photos.  This means the aperture and shutter speed are set by the camera and I manually set my ISO at 1600.  I used my Speedlite 430EX flash on two obvious shots.  All photos were photographed with my kit lens, EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, on my Canon EOS RebelXS.  The next post will feature some of the other dancers of Chriskwanzakkah.

Break for the Torch

Ok, I will finish with my exploration of Chriskwanzakkah 2010 but I had to take a short break and show you this.  Have you ever noticed how yellow or green are just not popular car colors today?  It’s just food for thought.  Very little thought.

I shot this with my BlackBerry Torch.  It’s one of the parking lots at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) campus.  Its where I go to school.

Ok, Chriskwanzakkah 2010 will continue with the next post.

Chriskwanzakkah 2010, Part 2, Pretty Faces

Ok, here it is!  The pretty faces of Chriskwanzakkah 2010!  Well, some of the pretty faces and a few guys too.
That collar is impressive.
I love this guy’s hair.
A beautiful smile for the holidays.
One of the dancers who performed.
Kendra Cryan of Liquid City.  She’s great and curates art shows among other things.  I did a couple of stories about what she does on examiner.com.
Bleach – guess why here name is Bleach.
The DJ who’s name escapes me (this was back in 2010).
Another dancer.
Another dancer.
Another dancer whose name is Eighth Letter speaking to Kevin Flint.
Some fella and Avery.
I love this hat.
That’s a holiday dress.
And here is Avery again with Jacen.  I should get out there more often.

14 photos – shot in program mode – which equates to aperture, shutter speed and ISO set by the camera and I manually set my ISO at 1600.  I used my Speedlite 430EX flash on every one of these photos.  All photos were photographed with my kit lens, EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, on my Canon EOS Rebel XS.  The next post will feature the hula hoop of Chriskwanzakkah.

Chriskwanzakkah 2010, Part 1, The Party

Oh man, look at me – I missed a day.  Well, here was the next event I shot.  This was the annual Chriskwanzakkah party.  The event was held in December 2010 and it was an affair to be experienced.  Held I at Kevin Flint’s studio (yes the same Kevin from the Collaboration Project) at the Brewery Complex in LA, this was a holiday party like no other.  I will break this up into 6 parts so that it’s not overwhelming.  Looking at the photos and remembering the event makes it clear that the photos don’t do it justice.  You have to experience this thing.  But take a look anyway.

Yep, that’s a hot tub back there.
 Look at that boogie down.
9 photos – shot in program mode so the aperture, shutter speed and ISO set by the camera.  Night time shooting so I set my ISO at 1600 and I randomly used my Speedlite 430EX flash.  I shot this all with my kit lens, EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, on my Canon EOS Rebel XS.  Tomorrow I’ll show you the “Pretty Faces” of Chriskwanzakkah.
